People are expecting a lot from the fourth generation of the Jeep Wrangler when it comes out as the 2018 model. Over in the US there are two new engines along with the new eight speed automatic transmission coming in the pickup variation of the 4×4.
However this may not be enough for one of the most important nameplates of Jeep if it is to go head to head with the 2019 Land Rover Defender. This is a vehicle that is going to come with many variations and features and it may be that we will see a pickup version too.
Semi-autonomous driving is going to be developed for the Range Rover Sport and we are sure that this will also be used in the Land Rover Defender.
The system doesn’t mean that drivers can take their hands off the steering wheel. What it focuses on is helping drivers off the road via sensors, radars and cameras. The system can help to adjust the vehicles speed when it senses puddles or change the driver setting if the vehicle senses a change in the terrain.
It is also going to offer the eight speed dual clutch gears that JLR have been keeping hidden and it is thought that it will come out for the Defender as well. The gears have been developed for going off the road too.
The DCT is going to be versatile with a ratio spread that is going to be wide enough for using at high torque when using low gears and when driving on the highway at speed. This is something that is going to be able to give the Jeep Wrangler pick up a good run for its money.
The Land Rover Defender is going to arrive by way of a hybrid variation and possibly a mild hybrid for the Jeep Wrangler may be seen, given that JLR did confirm that the Land Rover lineup is going to be hybridized and Jaguar is picking up full electrification.
