The smaller half a tonne pickup vehicles in the global market are not going to be making their way to the US, apart from the Ford Ranger. Neither can the mid-sized pickups in the US be compared to their international equals, and this applies to the Toyota Tacoma and the Hilux.

So we were interested when the FCA said that they were going to take their pickups over the pond and try to attract consumers in Europe. However it doesn’t seem to be such a good idea to try to put the Ram 1500 in a region that loves smaller vehicles.

This may give way to rumors that perhaps a Fiat or Ram sized mid-range pickup might be coming our way so that it could take on the Ford Ranger, Volkswagen Amarok and the Toyota Hilux. The Renault Alaskan, which was based on the Navara, along with the Mercedes GLT are also going to join the battle for consumers.

The FCA is now trying to grab the attention of customers along with feedback from the media on a decked out version of the Ram 1500. This was shown off at the IAA Hannover show in Germany.

The market analysis collected by the car maker may end up leading to the creation of a mid-sized Ram 1500 offshoot that would be able to go head to head with the Jeep Wrangler pickup at some point down the road.
