Mazda is getting closer to the Infiniti and Acura and they are moving away from the mass market and finally heading on to take on vehicles from Mercedes and BMW.
Of course before Mazda is able to do this they will need to make an image move that is progressive. If they fail to do this they could end up coming out just as Kia did with the K9000. Mazda doesn’t have what it needs to just come up with a luxury division in the same way that Honda did when they came up with the Acura or Nissan did with the Nissan Infiniti. They simply don’t have the money or the scale to do it.
Mazda doesn’t have all-electric vehicles and they don’t have hybrids either and if they want to be able to enter into the luxury market they will need to start out like Porsche did and this is with a narrow range. Porsche does offer a big portfolio due to the 911 series but then this wasn’t something that they did overnight, it has taken a lot of years.
So if Mazda does want to take on the vehicles from Mercedes, BMW and Audi they are going to need to take on Lexus, Infiniti, Acura and Genesis first. Of course they do have a formula with the Mazda 6 and 3 and they can take on the Infiniti Q50 along with the Mazda MX-5 RF.
Mazda also should ensure that the 2018 Mazda CX-5 gets rid of the bland looks and it should be more along the lines of the Mazda CX-9. Should they be able to do this they will take one step closer to entering into the premium market.
