What image comes to mind when you think about Jeep? Do you think about the Jeep Grand Cherokee first or does the more rugged Jeep Wrangler come to mind? Neither of the models are all there and the Grand Cherokee is only a half way upmarket vehicle, while the Wrangler is successful only in the US.
Around 20% of the 250,000 sales were outside of the US, half of them were sold to Canada and Mexico. This is due to the fact that the home market for Jeep is the most important and so they cater first and foremost to the US market.
Jeep have had to rely on overtime to ensure that the Toledo plant has been able to offer up enough supply of the Jeep Wrangler and the same has applied to the production of the Jeep Cherokee.
Now the FCA has decided that they want to make sure that they have enough Jeep Wranglers for everyone and they are investing $700 million. This means that around 350,000 units of the Jeep Wrangler could be made every year.
It also means that many Jeep Wranglers could be sent overseas and we are expecting them to be a great success, just like the Ford Mustang has been. The Mustang has been able to make a name for itself outside the US in a short time.
The Jeep Wrangler has charm that is similar to the Ford Mustang and it costs around the same as the Mustang in the US.
