The all-new 2016 Honda Civic Type-R is without a doubt what US fans want. Unfortunately the hot hatch has been reserved for Japan and Europe at this time and has fans confused what the reason behind it is.
Some say it has to do with the stricter safety and emissions standards that has Honda US forego the 2016 Honda Civic Type-R… for now. But with word that the 2018 Honda Civic Type-R may ride on a different body (new Civic) means that it isn’t the end of the world.
With that said, speculations are rising on what a 2018 Honda Civic Type-R with a US release date of just more than two years may bring with it. We can just look to the Japanese and European version to get the answers for that. And as such we could be looking at a real rival to the likes of the Subaru WRX STi. In terms of price however, we could be looking at upwards of US$40K. So in other words not a cheap hot hatch to zoom around in.
As long as Honda US stays true to what makes the current Civic Type-R so appealing and ensures the US version cranks out over 300BHP while living up to the emission and safety standards of the NHTSA, there is no doubt there will be many US buyers for a 2018 Honda Civic Type-R.
