The next generation of the Honda CR-V may come in the form of a plug-in hybrid, following the return of the Honda Accord Hybrid. It would also make a lot of sense for the Honda Civic to arrive in hybrid form too.

However this is only up to a certain point as we are going to see other electrification forms by the way of the Honda Clarity in 2018. The car maker wants the nameplate to be the dedicated electric vehicle offering hybrid, all electric and plug-in hybrid models.

This is the strategy of the Hyundai Ioniq and it may well be true for the Toyota Prius too. So if we do get to see the Honda Civic Hybrid we shouldn’t expect more and we shouldn’t expect even to see a diesel powertrain.

It was said that Honda has a contrasting position to Mazda as they think that diesel is going to become obsolete. More so following on from the aftermath that was created by the emissions scandal of Volkswagen.
