2018 Chevrolet Equinox Frightens Hybrid Competition At 40mpg
The Chevrolet Equinox hasn’t managed to come close to the Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue or the Toyota RAV4 when it comes to sales. The latter three have come among the best-sellers in the SUV category over in the US during the past month. However things could be about to change when the 2018 model comes our way.
The Chevrolet Equinox redesigned could look very different from the version that is out at the moment. What does make it special is the huge boost in fuel efficiency over the board. This is thanks to three brand new turbocharged powertrains.
The entry level 1.5 litre offers up 170 horses along with 203 of torque. This is less that the 2.4 litre, however its faster on the standstill. There is the V6 3.6 litre engine and this is going to be replaced by the 2 litre turbocharged offering up 49 horses less and 12lb torque less, however it does take less fuel.
The biggest kicker is the 1.6 litre turbocharged diesel which comes from the Chevrolet Cruz and this comes with 136 horses and 236 torque. It also loses 400lbs in weight and the oil burner is said to offer 40mpg when out on the highway.
This means it is going to be an advantage up against the hybrid version of the Nissan Rogue and the Toyota RAV4, which offers 31mpg and 34mpg when out on the highway.
GM are bringing out a diesel version for the compact SUV and this is going to challenge the hybrid rivals in the US along with abroad. The car maker said that the Equinox is going to be launched in 100 markets around the world.
