You cannot really compare the Porsche Panamera sport sedan and the Audi R8 even though they come with a price tag that is similar. They are going to be compared soon though once the second generation Audi does make its way onto the market.
Autocar said that there is going to be the top trim Audi R8 in the A4 and the A5 and the R8 is going to be replacing the V8 4.2 litre engine that offers up 414 horsepower and the V6 2.9 biturbo that offers up 434 horses by way of the Panamera 4S that has been redesigned.
We have also heard that the Audi R8 is going to be offered in different choices from the same engine and they will go up to 500 horses. By taking on the powertrain of the Porsche Panamera it would help Audi to reach out to many more consumers along with ensuring that the fuel economy figures meet the regulation standards that are tighter. Of course V10 fans don’t have to be worried as this engine isn’t going to be affected by any change.
The Audi R8 has been on the market for more than a decade so we can assume that we will see the arrival of the new engine ported over quickly for the Volkswagen Group brands. However for the time being we don’t know exactly when this is going to happen.
