The 2017 Tesla Model S is no stranger to the Motor Trend Car of the Year award as it won it back in 2013. This year it is going up again for the award and this time it is the 60/75kWh version that has been put up for the award.
The Tesla Model S doesn’t stand alone as also on the short list is the Chevrolet Bolt EV. The vehicle is up for its first award but there was a surprise as the Chevrolet Volt didn’t make it onto the list of finalists. Many people thought the Volt would make it as it has been a best-seller.
The Tesla Model S does deserve to be on the list of course as it offers one of the best upgrades from the 60kWh battery to the 75kWh by way of an OTA update. The 60kWh version comes in cheaper than the 75kWh by $8, 500. However if you go for the lower and then want to upgrade it is going to cost you $9,000.
It is good to see both the Tesla Model S and the Chevrolet Bolt EV as finalists for the Car of the Year award but it’s a shame that the Volt didn’t make it too.
But do you think that the Volt should have been a finalist along with the Tesla Model S and the Chevrolet Bolt EV?
