2017 Ram 1200: Too Humble For Tacoma, Colorado
The Mitsubishi Might Max along with the clone Dodge Ram 50 came out about the same time as Ronald Reagan was inaugurated and the 50 remained in the line-up of Dodge right up until 1986. This is when the Dakota took over and continued on until 2011. GM went into the midsized market during 2015 and this was by way of the Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon. We have now heard that the Ford Ranger is making a comeback in 2018 too. This means the Ram is the lone one without a true midsized pickup truck. However the Ram 1200 is going to arrive for the rest of the world.
The 2017 Ram 1200 is going to be a global brand but it doesn’t have appeal for consumers in the US. The engine that is the most powerful is the 2.5 litre I-4 turbodiesel offering up 134 horses and this is going to arrive in Eastern markets offering 236 torque. In other markets there will be the 178 horsepower version offered and the 2.4 litre I-4 gas engine which offers 130 horses.
The 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 does offers up an output that is very modest but the 1200 does have a payload of 2, 568lbs along with being able to tow up to 6,600 pounds.
The vehicle has metric styling and features plenty of curves and swooping lines, with the length being just a bit shorter than the Colorado or the Tacoma. The Ram 1200 may be intriguing on some markets but it isn’t right for the US market, but then you might think differently.
