There is going to be a PHEV, plug-in hybrid powertrain hidden beneath the hood of the 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo S and this took inspiration from the Porsche 918, offering almost 900 horses. It should offer close to 700 horsepower in the Panamera and if so it is going to blow the BMW M6 and the Audi RS7 out of the water.
There is more however and it is looking as though the arrival of the 2017 Porsche Panamera is bringing EV fever with it as it is thought that Porsche will be bringing out two PHEV models. There is the high performance version that will get temperatures soaring with the 4.0L biturbo V8 and the other will offer the V6 2.9 litre biturbo.
This move by Porsche to offer two choices may be down to them having to meet emission and fuel economy standards that are ever tightening. It is thought that the 2nd gen version should offer a great deal more than the 1st gen 2016 model which gives 23mpg combined.
On the other hand Porsche are also looking ahead to a future lineup of electric vehicles and this is going to climax with the Porsche Mission E, which we expect to see in 2020.
Porsche has taken their first steps towards reaching that ultimate goal by boosting the Panamera lineup and not just offering up the S E-Hybrid spin-off.
So the 2017 Porsche Panamera is set to start off the EV fever, which is going to continue until 2020.
