2017 Porsche Macan GTS Review: Why Numbers Don’t Lie

By  |

They say the numbers don’t lie and this proved to be true when taking a drive in the 2017 Porsche Macan GTS on Pikes Peak and cresting the summit of it only 14 minutes from leaving the starting line.

This wasn’t the fastest drive to the top, that goes to Jeff Zwart in 2002 who was behind the wheel of the 911 GT2 and he was driving on mostly gravel. Today there is more grip thanks to the pavement. The 2017 Porsche Macan is unflappable, even with the sun trying to blind you as you go around the blind corners, the narrow roads and the pavements with fronts, not to mention the drop-offs that are unforgiving.

The 2017 Porsche Macan GTS is the perfect vehicle to make its way through the Rockies thanks to the V6 3 litre twin-turbo engine that has 14 to 17.4psi and 360 horses at 6,000rpm along with 369 of torque from 1,650 to 4,000rpm. It offers the seven speed dual clutch transmission and this offers Sport Plus, Sport and Comfort modes.

The 2017 Porsche Macan GTS comes with air suspension, switchable sports exhaust, 20 inch alloys and lots of cosmetic goodies. During the test ride the vehicle was fitted with all-season tires and this did dull down the steering feel a little along with reducing the at-the-limit grip. The turbo did compensate for the loss in power at the high altitude and until the boost kicks in there was some lag.

The route driven in the vehicle meant driving over bumps in the pavement along with loose gravel but the Macan GTS in comfort mode adsorbed the terrain with just a hint of stiffness. There is an Off Road button that can be pressed and this takes the air suspension up by 10mm. This isn’t needed all that much, however the Sport and Sport Plus modes do come in handy.

The 2017 Porsche Macan GTS is a superb drive but it isn’t without flaws, however these are minor and they are forgotten very easily.
