By  |

With the 2017 Mazda CX-5 and the Subaru Forester it’s like beauty and the beast. But would you go for the beauty of the Mazda CX-5 or would it be the beast of a vehicle that is the Subaru Forester?

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 looks a lot like the version that it replaces but there are some big changes with it and some of these are in fact substantial. For one the vehicle is lower and longer than the version it replaces.

The Forester is a compact SUV that is great for families; it’s affordable and great for driving around the city. The styling has been revised and there are lots of enhancements on the interior and the cabin is soundproofed.

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is offered with the 2.5 litre engine and this is the same as on the version that is going out and this offered up 184 horses. There may be a diesel for US customers and the six speed auto or six speed manual transmission is available.

The base engine with the Subaru Forester is the 170 horsepower four-cylinder with CVT and on some trims there is the 6 speed manual transmission. The top range gets the upgraded CVT engine and this offers up 250 horses. The 2.5i Premium is offered with giant sunroof and power driver seating and the Touring version comes in at $29, 995 and comes with navigation. There is also the turbocharged XT version but you do have to give it premium fuel.

The interior of the Mazda CX-5 comes with looks that are premium and there are plenty of surfaces that are soft to the touch. You should get about 25mpg combined and Mazda have made the cabin quieter. Pricing hasn’t been revealed for the CX-5 at the moment and its going on sale from April 2017.

So would you go for the beauty or the beast, the Mazda CX-5 or the Subaru Forester?
