We see Apple CarPlay on a regular basis now in vehicles but the most unique way that we have seen in offered came from Alpine at the Consumer Electronic Show. They have added in the auto interface in their rugged infotainment system and made it available for the 2017 Jeep Wrangler.
The Alpine Restyle X209 and i209 WRA comes with Apple CarPlay integrated and it has the addition of physical buttons so that drivers can control the user interface. One example of this was given by pressing the navigation button on either of the units to bring up Apple Maps. The company also said that there is a hard key to gain access to Siri voice control.
The physical buttons were chosen to be a key player of the Alpine units due to the 2017 Restyle products being splash-proof. This means that any moisture on the display would mean the touchscreen could not be used properly. The design is IP54 rated and it has been aimed at those drivers who like to go out with the top removed and who drive over trails.
A demonstration of the Alpine Restyle X209 was shown off and the unit was given more than a simple splash as water was sprayed over the touchscreen along with the buttons. The display is high visibility for perfect views when in sunlight. The X209-WRA 9 inch Restyle Dash System is available for the 2017 Jeep Wrangler for $4,000.
