Many of the small crossovers have been targeted by the IIHS due to them having headlights that were substandard. The worst of these was the 2016 Honda HR-V, while the Jeep Renegade and Wrangler came in the poor category.
Now that this weakness has been pointed out it makes sense that HID and LED headlights would become the number one priority for car makers on the 2017 subcompact and compact vehicles.
This is exactly what Jeep has now done with the Jeep Renegade and the Wrangler as they are offering up LED headlights along with fog lamps for $595 on the refreshed models of vehicles. Therefore it is safe to say that the next generation of the Wrangler is going to arrive with standard with new bulbs.
However Honda isn’t making the same move when it comes to the 2017 Honda HR-V as they seem to want to continue offering up the halogen lights that have been rated poorly on the sibling to the Honda HR-V. This could be one of the main reasons why the Renegade has taken the top-selling nameplate for 2017.
