2017 Jeep Cherokee Gets Beaten By Renegade and Wrangler
There is a big move coming for Jeep and one of the victims that is going to be the biggest is the Jeep Cherokee. FCA want the Jeep Wrangler to become the leading nameplate along with the best-seller in the US and around the rest of the world.
In the US the Jeep Wrangler has finally been able to beat the sales of the Cherokee for the first time in a long time for year to date sales and monthly sales. They want this to continue happening for a long time to come.
The Cherokee is going to be moved from the Toledo plant and this is going to mean that the capacity for the Jeep Wrangler will be boosted from 240,000 shared vehicle production each year to 450,000, which means an increase in production by 87.5%.
The compact crossover is slowly being overtaken by the Jeep Renegade and internationally there is no other Jeep brand that has come close to the Renegade when it comes to growth rate of sales.
Since it was introduced around 70% of the sales have been for buyers outside of the US. When you consider the pace at which the vehicle has been selling overseas, the Jeep Renegade may soon overtake the Jeep Cherokee to become the top-seller outside of the US.
The popularity of the Jeep Wrangler, with a huge boost for supplies, is likely to play its part in the eclipse of the Jeep Cherokee in the global market.
The threat is different at home though as the same platform is going to be used for the Jeep Renegade and the Jeep Compass along with Patriot. This is going to make things a lot harder for the Cherokee due to the new version being able to challenge the position as being the cheaper and smaller model of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
