2017 Honda Odyssey vs Toyota Sienna – Minivans Are Cool Again

By  |

The 2017 Honda Odyssey and the Toyota Sienna are showing that minivans can actually be quite cool. So if you are in the market for a minivan is it going to be the Odyssey or would you go for the Sienna?

Minivans are the ideal for busy families but up until now they haven’t had looks that are cool and they have been taken over by the crossover utility vehicles. But the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna have brought the minivans back into style.

The Toyota Sienna has the smooth flanks and sheet metal and the Honda Odyssey is the more sculptured at the front and comes with the lightning bolt feature thanks to the beltline dropping lower to the rear. This means that anyone in the third row gets a much better view. Both vehicles offer a great interior and both are elegant. The Toyota has soft touch surfaces and this gives a great ambience in the cabin.

The Honda Odyssey offers the V6 3.5 litre 348 horsepower engine and this comes with 6 speed auto transmission. The Toyota Sienna has the V6 3.5 litre 8 speed automatic and this offers up 296 horses. The Odyssey offers a drive that is crisper than the Sienna but the latter offer all-wheel drive.

There is plenty of safety equipment in the Honda Odyssey and it received superb results in crash tests. It has forward collision warning but it didn’t manage to get the Top Safety Pick+ choice from the IIHS. The Toyota Sienna comes with the pre-collision protection system and it managed to score acceptable in the overlap test of the IIHS and got four stars in the NHTSA frontal crash test.

So would you go for the Honda Odyssey or would it be the Toyota Sienna?
