The 2017 Honda Civic is going to push the Mazda 3 right to the edge as the Civic now offers the same in fuel economy and it takes on looks that are just as exciting as the offering from Mazda.
Both the Mazda 3 and the 2017 Honda Civic offer up plenty of charm for compact vehicles and both are fuel efficient and offer a drive that is fun and also nimble.
The Mazda 3 is among the top rated of compact cars and it offers up an exterior that catches the eye along with it having a premium feel that belies its prices tag. The Honda Civic offers up new engines that are efficient, plenty of safety tech and a superb design.
For us the Honda Civic comes out ahead, but not by a wide margin, the shape is beautifully designed, it offers up a cabin that is cockpit like and the materials have a look that is more upscale. The Mazda 3 does offer up a look that is sporty though, but it doesn’t beat the Honda Civic for handling and ride, despite improvements having been made.
The Honda Civic offers the 2 litre 4-cylinder engine as standard and this gives out 158 horses along with 138 of torque. There is the 1.5 litre turbocharged 4-cylinder and this offers 174 horses and 162 torque.
The Mazda 3 has the 2 litre inline-4 offering 155 horses and 150 torque and there is a 2.5 litre version offering 184 horses and 185 torque. It is offered in 6 speed manual or automatic and they offer great mileage. It feel precise and tight on the road.
The 2.5 litre engine on the Mazda 3 offers 40mpg and the Honda Civic with the turbocharged engine offers up 42mpg when on the highway.
So do you agree with us that the Honda Civic comes out ahead or would you choose the Mazda 3?
