2017 Ford Mustang V10 Not Far Off In “Audio-acity”

By  |

Ford has launched a new patent for technology that is going to artificially make the engine sound as though there are more cylinders at work. They haven’t done this to make the vehicle go any faster but to give it better fuel efficiency. So maybe they will have the audio-acity to use it on the 2017 Ford Mustang?

The three cylinder engine could make a sound that was very much the same as the inline-six engine. Ford said that the new technology would improve the fuel efficiency as drivers would move gears to lower revs.

Ford said that drivers generally shift gears by ear and with the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine, higher revs are hold to get more power from small displacement. This however isn’t so good for fuel economy.

They have recorded the noise that the engine makes and then play it at the optimum mark for the combustion cycle. This in effect makes it sound as there more cylinders are at work. Ford believes that drivers will move to a higher gear sooner.

Other models, including the 2017 Ford Mustang, with the 2.3 litre EcoBoost engine and the Ford Focus RS have artificial sound producing capabilities, while Ford say should make for a more exhilarating drive.
