Acura was the brand name that had plenty of promise around a decade or so ago as it had lots of promise along with potential so that it could come up against some of the more established companies in the premium sector. This has lost some of the steam during more recent years and this does happen to be a pity when you take into account the growth at the moment of the crossover and premium SUV markets.
Honda hasn’t sat back on their haunches though as the premium division is making a comeback and one of the first vehicles comes from the Acura Precision Concept Design study in the shape of the 2017 Acura MDX. It is a vehicle that looks as though it can deal with vehicles from Audi, BMW and Mercedes with little trouble.
However it isn’t the only vehicle that is making a comeback. The 2016 Volvo XC90 is part of an $11 billion investment that will either make or break the company and it has set benchmarks for SUVs that are upper market for other vehicle makers.
It is going to be interesting to see if the premium dark horse that comes from Acura is going to be able to stand up to what happens to be among the most formidable vehicle makers in that segment.
