The 2016 Ford Ranger may be the vehicle that is going to end up killing off the Nissan, Toyota and the Mitsubishi trucks.
The 2016 Toyota Hilux has only just been launched along with the Mitsubishi Triton in Australia. These vehicles may be killed off though by the Ford Ranger, which is said to be heading our way during the third quarter of the year and just a few weeks before the new Hilux, which is going to arrive in October.
The engine on the Hilux is going to include the 2.8 litre four cylinder turbocharged diesel, which is going to have the six speed automatic. In comparison is the 3.2 litre five cylinder six speed manual or automatic of the Ford Ranger. The Triton offers up the 2.4 litre 4 cylinder with the five speed automatic or the six speed manual along with the twin turbocharged 2.3 litre with seven speed automatic or the six speed manual.
The Toyota is also going to offer up the 2.4 litre turbodiesel which offer 400Nm or 343Nm if it has the five speed manual gearing.
Ford and Nissan are both offering the 2.2 litre in the Ford Ranger and the 2.3 litre in the Navara. We also expect the 2.7 litre petrol version along with the 4 litre petrol. At the moment the Ranger has the 2.5 litre and the Navara the 2.5 litre petrol.
The Toyota Hilux can tow up to 1000kg and this matches both the Navara and the Ford Ranger, while the Triton can tow up to 3100kg.
Whether the Ford Ranger is going to be able to beat the Nissan, Toyota and Mitsubishi trucks remains to be seen, but it is possible.
